The San Antonio Police Department offers a variety of ways for community members including youth and students to work closely with the police through organized programs and individual activities. Listed below are descriptions of the ways San Antonio residents can form partnerships with the police to make their neighborhoods safer places to live.
ACTIVE CITIZEN PROGRAMS
- Citizen on Patrol (COP) - Neighborhood residents patrol their streets, using cell phones to report crimes. Ride-along and Training at SAPD substations. Find out more about Citizen on Patrol.
- Family Assistance Crisis Teams (FACT) - Trained volunteers work weekend evenings at substations to assist victims of family violence. Find out more about Family Assistance Crisis Teams.
- Volunteers in Policing (VIP) - Opportunities to assist SAPD with duties ranging from clerical to roof-top surveillance. 210.207.7386. Find out more about Volunteers in Policing.
- Citizens Police Academy (CPA) - An 13-week informational series to educate citizens about the SAPD and police work in San Antonio. Find out more about the Citizens Police Academy.
OUTREACH AND EDUCATION
Success Through Respect
The SAPD created Success Through Respect (STR) to build a relationship and establish trust with youth in San Antonio. The program is aimed at students from middle school to college. Students experience a variety of scenarios from the point of view of police in this live presentation by SAPD officers.
Public Safety Corps
The SAPD Public Safety Corps Program (PSC) introduces young people to law enforcement. The PSC program is for individuals between the ages of 14–21 who have an interest in a future law enforcement career. SAPD staff and facilities provide the PSC program.
