The City of San Antonio identifies coal tar pavement sealant products used in pavement construction as emitting specific environmental and health‐hazardous chemical components whose long‐term exposure has been linked to increased incidence and risk of carcinogenic health effects in humans and aquatic invertebrate species. Asphalt pavement sealcoat applicators and paved property owners are urged to avoid use of coal tar sealcoat products in order to reduce contamination and exposure risks via storm water runoff.
