VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance)


The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) has several locations across the city to assist with FREE tax preparation service for individuals and families who earn up to $55,000 per year. You may contact United Way regarding VITA by calling (210) 227-4357 or 2-1-1. VITA is a city-wide effort to help low to moderate income taxpayers properly claim tax credits. Trained and certified volunteers work with families to file tax returns with refunds electronically deposited within 10-14 business days on average.VITA services are available on a walk-in basis.

Income Tax Season Deadline Extended:

The 2020 income tax deadline for filing and making payments has been moved from April 15 to July 15 amid the coronavirus pandemic. All taxpayers and businesses will have this additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties.

In the spirit of community health and safety, the VITA San Antonio Coalition is supporting the preparation of tax returns as follows

  • Willie Velasquez Center -1302 North Zarzamora San Antonio, Texas 78207
  • Guadalupe Community Center - 1801 West Cesar E. Chavez Blvd. San Antonio, Texas 78207 (8:30-5pm, drop-off only)

The following items are needed to prepare your tax return: Valid Photo I.D. Social Security Card or Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) for you, your spouse and dependents All W-2 Forms A copy of last years tax return (if applicable) 1099 Forms (if applicable) If filing jointly, your spouse must be present Bank Routing Numbers and Account Numbers for Direct Deposit.
