Vaccines administered by Metro Health follow Texas Vaccines for Children (TVFC) and Adult Safety Net (ASN) availability and requirements.

Texas Vaccines for Children (TVFC sometimes referred to as only VFC) is a federal funded program that serves children who are 18 years of age or younger who are:

  • Uninsured;
  • Underinsured (insurance doesn’t cover charges completely);
  • Enrolled in CHIP or Medicaid; or
  • American or Alaskan Natives.

The Adult Safety Net (ASN) is a state funded program for adults aged 19 years of age and older who do not have insurance (NOTE:  Unlike the VFC program, ASN does not provide coverage for underinsured adults).  The Texas Department of State Health Services routinely reviews and updated the vaccines included in this program.  The vaccines currently covered by the ASN program are:

  • COVID-19 vaccine
  • Hepatitis A vaccine
  • Hepatitis B vaccine
  • Combination hepatitis A-hepatitis B vaccine
  • Measles, mumps, & rubella (MMR) vaccine
  • MCV4 Meningococcal vaccine
    • NOTE: this is not the Meningococcal B Vaccine required at many colleges and universities.
  • Tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (Tdap) vaccine
  • Tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccine

Vaccines are also available at Pop-up Clinic events held throughout San Antonio.  To find the nearest Metro Health vaccine pop-up clinic, visit us online at https://covid19.sanantonio.gov/News-Events/Events.  NOTE:  Beginning 10/1/2024, fees will be implemented following the fee schedule at the Immunization Clinic available here.
