The City of San Antonio passed the Domestic Violence Signage ordinance in October 2023. This local law helps more people find important domestic violence services and resources. The ordinance requires all public places to post domestic violence resource signs in restrooms used by visitors or employees by October 1, 2024. This may be the only private place a person experiencing domestic violence can scan a QR code or memorize a phone number to get help. San Antonio has one of the highest rates of domestic violence in Texas. We can help our neighbors break free from the cycle of abuse.
Metro Health will enforce the rule after receiving a complaint or conducting an inspection. If a complaint is made about your establishment, Metro Health staff will visit to enforce the display of the domestic violence sign.
This rule applies to all places of public accommodation. This includes every business in the City. It applies to any establishments open to the public that offer, for pay, any product, service, or facility.
Metro Health will provide the required signage at no cost. Signs are also available at local libraries or City Council Field Offices. Please be sure to contact the library/field office you plan to visit prior to arrival to ensure signs are available.
For any questions or to get the sign, please call 3-1-1 or 210-207-7776 for assistance. 311 Customer Service can be reached by dialing 3-1-1 or 210-207-6000. The 311 Call Center is available seven days a week from 7am-7pm.
