Christmas Tree Disposal

Saving...

The Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) offers various locations to dispose of Christmas Trees in early January.

If the tree is over 6 ft, please cut it in half, remove all lights, decorations and stands (including wooden stands). Do not bag trees. No live wreaths, garlands, or plants accepted.

Christmas trees can also be recycled at the Bitters Brush Recycling Facility, 1800 E. Bitters Road, or the Nelson Gardens Brush Recycling Facility, 8963 Nelson Rd, through the end of January during their regular business hours. Under the city’s Tarp Law, residents must cover brush loads with a tarp or a $5 penalty may be assessed.

Approximately one to two weeks after the Christmas tree disposal events, Christmas tree mulch will be available at the Bitters Brush Recycling Center for FREE while supplies last.

You may also compost a real Christmas tree by placing it in the green organics cart as long as it completely fits in the cart with the lid closed. Artificial Christmas trees are accepted at the bulk disposal sites or may be placed in the garbage can as long as the lid closes.
