Death Certificates

The Office of the City Clerk sells death certificates for individuals who died in Bexar County. To obtain a death certificate, you must be a qualified applicant such as an immediate family either by blood or marriage, or the legal guardian or agent. You must know the exact date of death. The fee for Death Certificates is $21.00. Vital Records office is located at 719 S. Santa Rosa Street, San Antonio Texas 78204.

The lobby is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, although they may shut down the line early if the demand and wait time gets too long. Also, please note that that the Office of the City Clerk Divisions do not open until 10 am on the 4th Tuesday of each month due to training requirements. Please note, the option to check in online is no longer available. Please check in once you get to the facility.

For corrections to Death Certificates: The City cannot make corrections to death certificates. The State of Texas Vital Statistics office handles corrections and amendments for death certificates.  Please contact the Vital Statistics State office at 888-963-7111.
