Animal Care Services collects information on locations of calls where loose animals are present, including animals who do not have owners or if the complainant is unaware of who the owner is, in order to plan and execute coordinated sweeps of areas with high stray call volume. These areas are then forwarded to District Officers and Sweep Teams for targeted enforcement action throughout that neighborhood or street. Sweeps are conducted within 60 days. Animals found to be owned will be returned to the owners if they are not found to be a threat to public safety and owners will be cited for allowing animals to roam. Animals found to be stray will be impounded to the ACS facility for evaluation, treatment and potential adoption.
